This past month, the “furniture capital of the world,” High Point, NC, hosted home décor’s largest annual trade show. For interior designers and furnishing companies, High Point Market represents an opportunity to showcase fresh styling and introduce new products.
As you can imagine, there is a lot going on within the 11.5 million square feet of exhibition space. Today on the blog, we’ve highlighted our top 5 favorite trends. Read on to learn about #HPMKT!
1. Pink Passion
There was no question about this season’s color trend. The pink craze started in 2016 when Pantone named Rose Quartz as color of the year. Now, the newly named Millennial Pink has taken the marketing and merchandizing world by storm. As expected, the original dusky blush color has spawned a whole array of new iterations. From pastel to peach to salmon, this trend now encompasses any pink on the lighter end of the spectrum.
In the world of interior décor, these pinks represent both a youthful energy as well as a sense of mature sophistication. At the market, we saw quite a few statement pink walls. However, for a more subtle infusion, there were also curated pops of pink in pillows and chairs. In terms of color pairing, many of the exhibits complemented their pinks with eye-catching metallic accents and calming, neutral bases. Check out some of our favorite pink vignettes below!

2. Lux Velvet
As we saw during the past runway season, velvet has cemented its spot as the latest “it” fabric. If you’ve been feeling lost amidst the velvet apparel trend, give this fabric another chance. Velvet can work wonders for a room, bringing a timeless sense of chic glamour. We love the soft feel and subtle sheen; this fabric really is made to be touched.
While the High Point vendors were favoring the classic velvet sofa, there are many potential decorative options. What about a tufted headboard or an upholstered ottoman; or, for an inexpensive and easy option, a large statement pillow? To ensure your velvet doesn’t look dated, opt for bright contemporary colors. We noticed that blue, in particular, is having its own personal velvet moment. 3. Raw Minerals
High Point this year was full of gorgeous stones: cross-sections of malachite and agate, quartz shard clusters, and crystalline geodes. Minerals have such an aesthetic appeal, with their unique abstract shapes. Furthermore, you can find them in every color under the sun, from entrancing malachite green to pale crystal tints.
At this year’s market, minerals showed up everywhere from the classic bookend accessory, to the sumptuous chandelier fixture, to the dining room table. As such, they adorned every possible room of the house, bringing a raw elegance and contemporary feel to home decor. Try transforming this stoneware trend into a surface design for a fabric or wall covering. The raw lines and natural ripples offer a truly entrancing pattern. Envision some of these stones below as a fantastic wall hanging or tablecloth!

4. Marbled Ink
While we continue to see lots of geometric and striped prints, what really drew our attention this year was the strong showing of marbled designs. As opposed to organic marble stoneware, these looks have a distinctly painterly quality. Color is manipulated and strewn in rhythmic swirls, smooth lines, and scattered droplets. These patterns are utterly mesmerizing.
At High Point, these abstract designs felt uber contemporary and approachably artsy. A collection of couch cushions or bed pillows would be the perfect way to highlight the variety of ink techniques in a range of coordinating colorways. Note how many of the Market showrooms incorporated really vibrant, fearless colorways below!

5. Boho Chic
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the 2017 Market confirmed that the boho chic trend is here to stay. This design style is known for its relaxed ambiance, eclectic accessories, and natural materials. Furthermore, the Pantone color of the year, Greenery, serves as the perfect accent to these organic interiors.
This year’s boho showrooms were grounded in textural neutrals with minimal accents of color. While botanical and tribal prints added visual interest, the main statement was the preponderance of woven wicker. We love the idea of taking organic materials and turning them into unexpected fabric prints. Get inspired with these showroom looks below!
